Written Answers. - Industrial Regulation.

David Stanton

Question:

796 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if he is satisfied that the systems of accreditation and certification of trusted third parties in e-commerce matters here is satisfactory; his further plans in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17100/02]

The National Accreditation Board administered a pilot scheme during the period 2000-01 on the accreditation and certification of trusted third parties. On foot of the experience of this scheme, a statutory instrument is being drafted under the Electronic Commerce Act, 2000 which designates the National Accreditation Board as the competent authority responsible for the development and implementation of a voluntary national accreditation scheme for certification service providers. It is envisaged that this statutory will be in place in the coming months.
