Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Foreshore Licences.

Simon Coveney

Question:

829 Mr. Coveney asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if a foreshore licence has been issued to Iarnród Éireann at Broadmeadow estuary, Malahide, County Dublin; the nature of the works for which such a licence has been granted; when and the length of time for which, the licence has been granted. [17063/02]

A foreshore licence was approved on 2 May, 2001 for the purpose of the carrying out, by Iarnród Éireann, of a marine survey of the foreshore comprising boreholes, rotary coring, trial pits and geophysical surveys. The purpose of this survey was to assist in determining the feasibility of a level crossing replacement project. My Department has advised Iarnród Éireann that any subsequent development in this area that is located on the foreshore will require a foreshore lease or licence, as appropriate, under the Foreshore Acts, 1933 to 1998.
