Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Sports Capital Programme.

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

871 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism if he has made contact with Shamrock Rovers Football Club regarding its unfinished stadium at Tallaght, Dublin 24; and the encouragements he can offer the club to complete the project. [16553/02]

The sports capital programme, which is administered by my Department, provides funding to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country towards the provision of sport and recreational facilities. Under the programme, a total of almost €2.6 million has been paid out to date to Shamrock Rovers towards the development of a new stadium at Tallaght including an amount of €1.3 million which was allocated and paid to the club in 2002. Officials in my Department have requested that the club provide a report on progress in relation to the project and they are also in touch with the Football Association of Ireland on the matter.
