Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Legislative Programme.

Enda Kenny

Question:

880 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism his Department's legislative programme for the remainder of 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14398/02]

My legislative programme for the remainder of this year comprises the Arts Bill, 2002, the National Tourism Development Authority Bill, and the Abbotstown Sports Centre Authority Bill, previously the Campus and Stadium Ireland Development Authority Bill. The Arts Bill, 2002, is intended to update the existing legislation to make it more relevant and appropriate to present day context. It repeals the Arts Acts, 1951 and 1973. The Bill commenced Second Stage in the Dáil in June but did not complete this stage owing to the intervention of the summer recess.

The National Tourism Development Authority Bill will provide for the dissolution of Bord Fáilte Éireann and CERT Limited and the transfer of their functions to the new National Tourism Development Authority. The new authority will promote the development of sustainable tourist facilities and services, including the promotion of training, human resource and marketing skills development in the tourism industry. Work on the drafting of this Bill is at an advanced stage. Work on the Abbotstown Sports Centre Authority Bill is at an advanced stage. The Bill will provide for the establishment of a body to be known as the Abbotstown Sports Centre Authority; provide for the development and management of a sports centre at Abbotstown in Dublin; define its functions, and provide for related matters.
