Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ophthalmic Service.

Michael Ring

Question:

973 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children when the fee of ?27 for new lenses of glasses for pensioners, now in operation by the Western Health Board, was first introduced; if all other health boards or regional authorities charge similar fees; and if so, the details of same. [15756/02]

The ophthalmic service schemes operated by the health boards entitle all adult medical card holders to sight tests and appliances, where appropriate, free of charge. I have been advised by the Western Health Board that it has not introduced any fee for services under the schemes, including the supply of new lenses. The Western Health Board has further advised me that if the Deputy wishes to forward any additional information concerning this case, the matter will be investigated and the board will communicate directly with the Deputy.
