John McGuinness

Question:

1045 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Health and Children the services which are available to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who attended the special language unit, Presentation Convent, Kilkenny, for two years and now requires ongoing, one-to-one assistance in this regard; if a place can be found for this person; and if his Department will fund private treatment if a place cannot be found. [16071/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1009 and 1045 together.

The provision of health related services, including speech and language therapy, to people with physical and sensory disabilities is a matter for the Eastern Regional Health Authority and the health boards in the first instance. Accordingly, a copy of the Deputy's questions has been referred to the chief executive officer of the South Eastern Health Board with a request that he examine the matter and reply directly to the Deputy, as a matter of urgency.
