Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medicinal Products.

Olivia Mitchell

Question:

1213 Ms O. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he is taking to ensure that a drug (details supplied) which has recently been withdrawn from the market is made available for an alternative source and made eligible for inclusion under the drug refund scheme and to GMS patients; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17313/02]

The product referred to by the Deputy was removed from the common list of reimbursable medicines at the request of the company that marketed it. Accordingly, the question of its reinstatement does not arise.

However, I am informed that alternative products may be available, and any patients experiencing difficulty obtaining their medication should consult their general practitioner. Arrangements may also be made on an individual basis for the sourcing and supply of the product or a suitable alternative through the arrangements made for the supply of unlicensed medicines.

Question No. 1214 answered with Question No. 1098.
