Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Cards.

Richard Bruton

Question:

1217 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children if arrangements will be made whereby pensioners who are on the medical card and who need a medical certificate to allow them continue to drive, can obtain this certificate of medical competence without charge on the medical card. [17392/02]

Medical card holders are eligible for a range of treatments and services without charge under the GMS scheme. However, the issue of certificates to any medical card holder, regardless of age, except in the case of the first and last certificates required for employment absences, may incur charges. I do not have any plans to change the current system.
