Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Rail Services.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

1320 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Transport the position in relation to increasing capacity on the Arrow line serving Celbridge, Sallins and Newbridge; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17462/02]

Iarnród Éireann informs me that it is planned to increase capacity on suburban rail services on the Dublin to Kildare line by 130% by end 2003 through: the deployment of new diesel railcars, the first batch of which are due for delivery shortly; the provision of additional platforms at Heuston Station, resignalling and improved track work on the approaches to the station to be completed by end 2003; and other infrastructural work, including lengthening of platforms at existing stations along the way, and a new turnback facility at Newbridge.
