Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Suspension of Garda.

Liz McManus

Question:

1323 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform his views on the length of time it is taking for the Garda authorities to resolve the suspension of a person (details supplied) in County Wicklow; whether any third party was in contact with the Garda authorities other than the parties directly concerned about the case; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15400/02]

The Garda Síochána (Discipline) Regulations, 1989, provide that where, in the opinion of the Commissioner, the circumstances render such a course desirable, he may suspend a member from duty.

I have no function in the matter and, in view of the circumstances of the case referred to by the Deputy, it would be inappropriate for me to comment on the matter.
