Phil Hogan

John McGuinness

Question:

1433 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the amount of funding passed for the closed circuit television system for Kilkenny City; the stage the project is at; the timeframe involved for completion of the work; the expected date when the system will be commissioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17454/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 1379 and 1433 together.

Kilkenny is one of 17 locations set to receive new Garda CCTV systems over the next two years – subject, of course, to the availability of funds. The other locations are, in alphabetical order: Athlone, Ballyfermot, Bray, Carlow, Castlebar, Clondalkin, Clonmel, Dundalk, Dún Laoghaire, Ennis, Finglas, Galway, Limerick, Sligo, Tallaght and Waterford. Planning by the Garda authorities for the installation of the CCTV system in Kilkenny is scheduled to commence in 2003.

Question No. 1380 answered with Question No. 1358.
