Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Visa Applications.

John McGuinness

Question:

1401 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he will issue a visitors visa in the case of a person (details supplied); if consideration will be given to the submission made by a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who is a relative of the applicant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16779/02]

The visa application in question was refused because it had not been established, on the basis of the documentation supplied to my Department, that the applicant would observe the conditions of a visit visa. In particular it was felt that the applicant had not displayed sufficient evidence of her obligations to return home following her proposed visit. An appeal against the refusal was received. The visa appeals officer, having re-considered the application, including the submissions made in support of the appeal, upheld the original decision. A letter to that effect issued on 16 September 2002.
