Vol. 554 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Expenditure.

Bernard Allen

Question:

1416 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the way in which spending in the first nine months of 2002 compares to the budgeted profile for spending for each major programme of his Department's spending; and his forecast for year-end overruns. [17170/02]

In the first nine months of 2002 expenditure across the Justice, Equality and Law Reform group of Votes exceeded the profiled expenditure by 1.6% in total. As far as expenditure for the full year is concerned, the Government agreed that a projected overrun on the Prisons Vote amounting to €20 million can be provided out of savings in other areas of the public service. As regards the other Votes for which I am responsible, my Department has indicated that it will manage its budgets within the amount provided in total for those Votes.
