Question:

1423 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the necessary finance will be available for the provision of closed circuit television cameras for Carlow town; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17238/02]

Carlow is one of 17 locations set to receive new Garda CCTV systems over the next two years subject to the availability of funds. The other locations are Athlone, Ballyfermot, Bray, Castlebar, Clondalkin, Clonmel, Dundalk, Dún Laoghaire, Ennis, Finglas, Galway, Kilkenny, Limerick, Sligo, Tallaght and Waterford. Planning by the Garda authorities for the installation of the CCTV system in Carlow is scheduled to commence in 2003.
