Vol. 555 No. 2

Adjournment Debate. - Pension Provisions.

Michael Ring

Question:

424 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will receive the arrears of an old age contributory pension. [18177/02]

The person concerned qualifies for maximum rate old age contributory pension at the weekly personal rate of €147.30 with effect from 7 June 2002, that is, the Friday after her 66th birthday. She opted to receive her pension by way of electronic fund transfer to her bank account. The first payment in respect of the period 19 July 2002 to 3 October 2002 was credited to her account on 4 October 2002. Arrears in respect of the period 7 June 2002 to 18 July 2002 issued to her home address on 10 October, 2002.

She will receive her next payment on 18 October 2002 in respect of the period 4 October 2002 to 17 October 2002. Her bank account will be credited every two weeks thereafter. In this case, the claim took somewhat longer than normal to decide as it was necessary to verify certain details regarding self-employment contributions paid by the person concerned.
