Adjournment Debate. - Imported Grain.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

172 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give details of disease testing done on imported grain; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18283/02]

Within the EU there is free movement of grain product between member states. The only grain that poses any plant health quarantine risk is grain of wheat, rye and wheat/rye cross that originates in the following third countries – Afghanistan, India, Iraq, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan or the USA. Such grain is required to be covered by phytosanitary certificates issued by the plant protection service of the exporting country.

Question No. 173 answered with Question No. 157.
