Vol. 555 No. 3

Written Answers. - Birth Records.

Michael Ring

Question:

208 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children the location the records of children born out of wedlock around the 1930's in Castlebar, County Mayo are kept. [18457/02]

At present there is no central location of records relating to children. At the time, any records would have been maintained by the local authority in the area. However, such records may have been transferred to the relevant health board when responsibility was transferred in the early 1970s. If a particular individual is seeking records he or she should first contact Clann Regional Adoption and Tracing team, Western Health Board, The Annexe, West City Centre, Séamus Quirke Road, Galway. The telephone number is 091-548430.
