Question:

127 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the revenue from charges related to public services which his Department approved to be raised by agencies under his aegis, which are not included in appropriations in aid for 2000, 2001 and 2002. [18729/02]

Sources of revenue from charges related to public services which are not included in appropriations in aid include maintenance charges, in-patient charges, out-patient charges, road traffic accident receipts, long stay charges and other patient charges. Further income is generated from certain payroll deductions, canteen receipts and other miscellaneous items.

Income generated from these sources was some €251 million in 2000, some €271 million in 2001 and the 2002 projection is for some €300 million. This level of income is, of course, available each year to support the provision of health services generally.
