Vol. 555 No. 4

Written Answers. - CLÁR Programmes.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

184 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs his plans to extend and expand the CLÁR programme; the amount invested in CLÁR programmes in County Kerry to date; if other parts of County Kerry are to be included in CLÁR; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18615/02]

Martin Ferris

Question:

186 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if the review of the new areas to be included in the CLÁR programme has been completed; and if so, if it will be made available to Dáil Éireann. [18676/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 184 and 186 together.

I have commissioned the National Institute for Regional and Spatial Analysis at NUI, Maynooth to analyse the 2002 population census data to assist me in reviewing the CLÁR areas. The agreed programme for Government contains a commitment to review the census data and con sider additional areas for inclusion. I expect that the review will be completed by the end of 2002 and the outcome will be made available to Dáil Éireann. The amount of CLÁR direct funding committed to date by my Department to the CLÁR areas in County Kerry is €1.27 million. This has attracted additional expenditure through matching funding from various sources.
