35 Ms Lynch asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the investigation which has been held into the treatment of persons (details supplied) arrested in Dublin 2 in April 1998, who received an apology and undisclosed damages in a settlement announced in the High Court on 12 July 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The case to which the Deputy is referring was the subject of extensive media reporting in July of this year. Following the settlement made in the High Court on 12 July 2002, I sought a full Garda report on the matter and the commissioner directed an examination of all aspects of the case. The commissioner has informed me that the examination has not yet been finalised.
