Vol. 555 No. 5

Written Answers. - Offshore Exploration.

David Stanton

Question:

251 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources if a new natural gas field has been discovered near the Kinsale Head field; if so, if it is commercially viable; if and when it can be separated and brought ashore; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19360/02]

Seven Heads Partners have discovered gas in the Seven Heads gas field off the coast of Cork near the Kinsale gas field and have declared it to be commercial. Ramco Seven Heads Limited, as operator, has applied for a petroleum lease which would demise the petroleum to them. This is currently being considered in my Department and if I agree that the find is commercial I expect to be in a position to give a decision in the matter of the lease shortly. Should I approve the proposed development Seven Heads Partners have plans to bring the gas ashore by July 2003.
