Vol. 555 No. 5

Written Answers. - Arts Council.

Paul Nicholas Gogarty

Question:

265 Mr. Gogarty asked the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the steps currently in place to make the Arts Council accountable in disputes between it and members of the public; and if changes are planned to make the decision-making process more transparent. [19348/02]

The Arts Council is a statutory agency which operates independently in the context of individual funding decisions. It is for the council to explain its decisions to the public and in that context the council comes within the remit of the Freedom of Information Act. It is also the council's responsibility to put in place appropriate mechanisms for the resolution of disputes.
