Vol. 556 No. 2

Written Answers. - Child Care Services.

Eamon Ryan

Question:

78 Mr. Eamon Ryan asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on the association of high sugar brands, such as a product (details supplied), with National Children's Day, in view of the increasing rates of child obesity and early onset diabetes here at present; and his further views on whether the State should sponsor events such as National Children's Day in the future. [19682/02]

My Department did not provide funding for National Children's Day this year, and has no plans to do so in the future. The aim of National Children's Day is to encourage children nation-wide to participate in and celebrate their childhood throughout the day. National Children's Day Limited is a non-profit making company which organises this event. The event is funded by sponsorship secured by National Children's Day Limited.
