Vol. 556 No. 3

Written Answers. - Decentralisation Programme.

Michael Ring

Question:

275 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Finance if he will give consideration to the town of Ballina, County Mayo, for significant decentralisation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19777/02]

John Perry

Question:

280 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Finance the counties which have been selected under the programme for decentralisation; the reasons for the delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19963/02]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 275 and 280 together.

No decisions have yet been taken by the Government in relation to a new programme of decentralisation. I am, however, conscious of the case made for the inclusion of Ballina in any new programme and the Deputy can be assured that full regard will be had to all submissions and representations received by my Department. In view of the many varied and complex issues which must be taken into account before a Government decision on a new programme is taken, I am not in a position to confirm when such a decision will be made.
