Question:400 Mr. Boyle asked the Minister for Education and Science if continuing and ongoing funding will be made available from his Department for the Eurochild schools writing project. [20339/02]
I propose to take Questions Nos. 321 and 400 together.
On foot of applications for funding in respect of the Eurochild project, my Department issued a grant of £3,000 in October 2001 and a further grant of €5,000 in August 2002. The application for ongoing funding for the Eurochild project was given careful consideration by my officials. In considering the matter, my Department took account of the fact that a number of similar projects were already in operation in various locations. Unfortunately, in view of the range of similar projects taking place in Irish schools, it is not possible for my Department to provide ongoing funding for the Eurochild schools writing project.
