Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

213 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Finance the progress to date in respect of drainage works at Maynooth, Straffan, Johnstown and other locations in County Kildare; if the works to date are in line with projected costs; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [21619/02]

The Office of Public Works is carrying out interim drainage works as requested by Kildare County Council on the Lyreen/Meadowbrook Rivers and the Morrell River as identified in consultant's reports commissioned by the local authority. Scheduled works on the Lyreen Meadowbrook have been completed in line with the recommendations in the consultant's report. Bridge works have been completed on the Morrell River and embankment construction commenced. Due to adverse weather conditions, however, works have now ceased and will be resumed early next year. To date, all works are within the projected budget.
