Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Laffoy Commission.

Phil Hogan

Question:

410 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Garda Síochána can access information that is made in the form of submission by victims of abuse to the Laffoy Commission; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22529/02]

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the work of the Laffoy Commission is governed by establishing legislation. Allegations of criminal behaviour are investigated when they are referred to the Garda Síochána. I have been informed that any allegations of criminal behaviour referred to the Garda Síochána by the commission will be dealt with in a similar way. Regardless of whether the commission is in receipt of information, it is open to individuals to report alleged offences to the Garda Síochána.
