Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Appeals.

Michael Ring

Question:

484 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs when a carer's allowance appeal by a person (details supplied) in County Mayo will be finalised. [22215/02]

The position in this case is as set out in my reply to the Deputy's Question on 9 October 2002. The person's appeal has been considered by an appeals officer who has decided that an oral hearing is necessary. This will be arranged as soon as possible. Under social welfare legislation, decisions on claims and the insurability of employment must be made by deciding officers and appeals officers. These officers are statutorily appointed and I have no role in making such decisions.
