Vol. 557 No. 4

Written Answers. - Afforestation Programme.

Billy Timmins

Question:

106 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources his policy with respect to the planting of forestry in County Wicklow; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22445/02]

National forest policy is set out in the strategic plan for the development of the forestry sector in Ireland, Growing for the Future.

My Department is in the process of developing indicative forest strategies, IFS, for each county. IFS set out the preferred areas for planting and are drafted in consultation with stakeholders and the public in general. The IFS for County Wicklow was prepared by Wicklow County Council in consultation with my Department and was agreed, following extensive consultation. It is due to be published by the end of this year.
