Vol. 557 No. 5

Written Answers. - Child Abuse.

Phil Hogan

Question:

191 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Health and Children when his attention was drawn to allegations in St. Michael's, Cappoquin, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22987/02]

Allegations in relation to St. Michael's, Cappoquin, first came to the attention of officials in my Department in early 1994. The matter was investigated by the South-Eastern Health Board and the Garda Síochána. I was made aware of them in October on receipt of a copy letter from a member of the public. It is now a matter for the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse to consider whether any person subjected to abuse in St. Michael's should bring it to the attention of the commission.

Question No. 192 answered with Question No. 190.
