Vol. 558 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Transport.

Charlie O'Connor

Question:

426 Mr. O'Connor asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if funding will be provided to replace the community bus at Tallaght Garda station, Dublin 24. [23322/02]

While I, as Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, am responsible for ensuring that the Garda Síochána are adequately resourced in terms of personnel and equipment, it is the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of these resources to individual areas. The purchase and replacement of Garda vehicles is financed from subhead D of the Garda Vote.

The funding in this subhead is of a general provision nature and, consequently, I have been advised by the Garda authorities that funds have not been specifically set aside to provide for the replacement of the bus in Tallaght. I am, however, also advised by the Garda authorities that the decision to seek to replace the community bus is a matter for local Garda management who will be required to make a business case to justify the capital expenditure in purchasing a replacement bus.
