Vol. 558 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Properties.

Eamon Ryan

Question:

462 Mr. Eamon Ryan asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the total number of his Department's car parking spaces, for both staff and visitors, located within Dublin city centre, from the Grand Canal on the southside to the Royal Canal on the northside with Heuston Station and the Phoenix Park being the extent of the western boundary. [23363/02]

Parking is available for up to an estimated 130 cars in my Department's offices in the Dublin area described. While primarily for use by staff, the parking spaces are shared by both staff and authorised visitors alike on a first come basis.

My Department is strongly committed to encouraging and supporting the use of environmentally friendly commuting options by its staff. To that end, the Department encourages the use of public transport through the Civil Service travel pass scheme, with a take-up of around 28% of Dublin based staff last year. The use of bicycles is also encouraged through the provision of secure "lock up" space and showering facilities at the Department's main offices.
