Vol. 558 No. 2

Written Answers. - RAPID Programme.

Tony Gregory

Question:

200 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the projects referred to his Department for funding under the RAPID programme from the Dublin Central constituency, and the funding allocation he has made for these projects. [23838/02]

The RAPID, Revitalising Areas by Planning, Investment and Development, programme targets the most concentrated areas of disadvantage in the State by ensuring that priority attention is given to these areas by Departments and State agencies dealing with disadvantage and local development in the widest sense.

The following proposals for funding have been received by my Department under the RAPID programme from the Dublin Central constituency: proposal No. DUBNWIC12 – recruitment of staff for the Pitter Patter crèche. The child care project Pitter Patter has received a capital grant of €28,087 and a staffing grant of €190,461 under the equal opportunities child care programme; proposal No. DUBNWIC16 –‘Cobblestone' Youth Diversion Project.

This proposal is one of a number of similar proposals for Garda youth diversion projects which have been received by my Department under the RAPID programme. No funding is available for this proposal in this year's budgetary allocation. However, these proposals will be given further consideration when the comprehensive guidelines for Garda youth diversion projects, which are in the final stages of preparation, are implemented and when the financial allocation in 2003 for Garda youth diversion projects is finalised.
