Written Answers. - Garda Investigations.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

210 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the action taken by way of ongoing follow-up in respect of unsolved murder cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24035/02]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that all incidents of unlawful killings are the subject of rigorous investigation by the Garda.

The investigation of serious crimes is undertaken by divisional and district officers at a local level and all of the necessary technical services are available to these investigations. National units, such as the Garda national bureau of criminal investigation and the Garda national drugs unit, are available to assist where necessary.

All available resources are employed in respect of all murder cases to bring these investigations to a successful conclusion. The Garda authorities are satisfied that the measures currently in place are adequate to address these areas of criminal activity.

Question No. 211 answered with Question No. 62.
