Údarás na Gaeltachta has not instigated a policy of selling off all of its properties in the Uibh Ráthach Gaeltacht.
The property referred to by the Deputy consists of one building subdivided into three residential units which has been in Údarás ownership for many years. The building is not suitable for its general objectives and, despite best efforts, has remained largely unoccupied over the years. This led to the decision in 1995 to sell the property which has been on the open market since.
In 2001 Údarás acceded, by way of a caretaker's agreement, to a request from a local business supported by Údarás for the use of part of the premises on a temporary basis. This agreement obliged the company to deliver up possession when required to do so and did not confer any special privilege in the event of the property being sold.
The property was available for sale on the open market and this fact was widely advertised in the area. An agreement has now been reached to sell the property in question to the highest bidder.
