Vol. 558 No. 4

Written Answers. - Disabled Drivers.

Fergus O'Dowd

Question:

295 Mr. O'Dowd asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason a person (details supplied) in County Louth did not receive a primary medical certificate on behalf of his/her child (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24255/02]

The medical assessment for and granting of a primary medical certificate for the purpose of the Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions) Scheme is carried out by the senior area medical officer in the relevant health board. This function is to assist the Department of Finance which has statutory responsibility for the Disabled Drivers and Disabled Passengers (Tax Concessions) Scheme. Accordingly, my Department has asked the chief executive officer of the North-Eastern Health Board to investigate this matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
