Vol. 558 No. 4

Written Answers. - Maternity Services.

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin

Question:

303 Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin asked the Minister for Health and Children if his attention has been drawn to the comments of the Master of the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street, Dublin (details supplied) that the hospital did not receive the funding required from his Department and the Eastern Regional Health Authority to provide the high level of complex care for babies and pregnant mothers referred from other hospitals and health boards; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that this hospital has threatened to restrict pregnant women being transferred to it from other hospitals and health boards; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24436/02]

Responsibility for the provision of services at the National Maternity Hospital rests with the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has therefore, requested the regional chief executive of the authority to investigate the specific issues raised by the Deputy in relation to the hospital and to respond directly to him.
