Vol. 558 No. 4

Written Answers. - Nursing Staff.

John Deasy

Question:

316 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Health and Children the average time in each health board area before temporary nurses are made permanent; if his attention has been drawn to the financial difficulty this causes to temporary nurses who after a period of years are made permanent and have to make back payment for pension purposes covering their period of temporary employment; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24637/02]

Responsibility for the permanent appointment of temporary nurses rests with the health boards-ERHA. My Department has therefore, requested the information from the chief executive officers and will write to the Deputy when the information is received.
