Vol. 558 No. 4

Written Answers. - Official Language Equality.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

347 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Transport the additional costs which have arisen from the obligations on his Department in relation to the adoption by the Government in July 2002 of official language equality as one of the three new principles for quality customer services; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24602/02]

Since official language equality has become one of the principles of quality customer service, my Department has incurred specific costs of approximately €4,000. Other expenditure is likely to be incurred as the Department continues to implement this policy. For example, as they come to be published, documents such as the statement of strategy, annual report, and the customer service action plan will be made available in both English and Irish.
