Vol. 558 No. 4

Written Answers. - Northern Ireland Issues.

Brendan Smith

Question:

367 Mr. B. Smith asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress to date in relation to the establishment of a trust fund to assist the victims of the conflict in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24576/02]

On 17 April, 2002, the Government agreed in principle to the establishment of a trust fund to address the needs of those bereaved and injured in this jurisdiction as a result of the conflict in the North, and in this regard to establish a working group to draw up detailed proposals for the operation of such a fund. The working group has now completed its deliberations and I will bring its report together with proposals to Government shortly.
