Vol. 558 No. 4

Written Answers. - Urban Renewal Schemes.

Seymour Crawford

Question:

385 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the tax incentive scheme will be extended to towns such as Kingscourt, County Cavan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [24586/02]

The selection of towns under the town renewal scheme was a matter for individual county councils in accordance with a selection formula contained in the scheme guidelines and which was based on the number of eligible towns in the various counties. Under this formula, Cavan County Council could select a maximum of six towns for which plans could be submitted. Kingscourt was not among the six towns selected by Cavan County Council and, consequently, could not be considered for designation under the scheme. There are no proposals to make further designations under the town renewal scheme.
