406 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will make a statement on the views of a residents' group (details supplied) in Dublin 20; and if he has considered its representations. [24355/02]
I have received a letter from the residents' group in question. It enclosed a copy of an earlier letter and enclosures addressed to Dublin City Council stating some concerns of the group in relation to the Planning and Development Act, 2000, and the Planning and Development Regulations, 2001, as they are applied by Dublin City Council.
In its letter addressed to me, the residents' group made comments and offered suggestions on aspects of the Act and regulations, including provisions relating to time limits for deciding planning applications, site notices and the prohibition on submitting a planning application for a development which is the subject of a current appeal to An Bord Pleanála.
My Department is actively monitoring the overall implementation of the new Planning and Development Act and Regulations, including issues such as those raised in this case, through visits to local authorities and discussions with the relevant sub-committee of the City and County Managers Association, with which regular meetings are held.
I have no proposals at present for amendment of these provisions. However, the issues raised by the group will be borne in mind in any future review. Compliance with the individual requirements of the Act and regulations is properly the responsibility of the local authority concerned.
