Vol. 559 No. 2

Written Answers. - Apprentice Training Allowances.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

77 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will increase the refund to farmers who employ farm apprentices in view of the recent increase in farm apprentices' wages; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [25684/02]

Teagasc is the body with responsibility for the provision of agricultural training and public funding for that purpose is provided to it. Accordingly, proposals regarding training allowances for apprentices participating in Teagasc training courses are a matter for Teagasc. I understand that Teagasc currently provides a subvention of €32 per week from within the overall financial allocation for that body.
