Vol. 559 No. 5

Written Answers. - Psychological Service.

Pat Carey

Question:

206 Mr. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department will refund fees paid by a person (details supplied) in Dublin 11 in respect of a psychological assessment of their child which this person had to have carried out privately; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26434/02]

My Department has allocated funding to a scheme for commissioning psychological assessments. This scheme allows schools that do not yet have access to the service provided by the National Educational Psychological Service, NEPS to commission psychological assessments from private practitioners. Detailed guidelines on the operation of the scheme are available on my Department's website, www.irlgov.ie/educ. In general, eligible schools commission assessments from psychologists in private practice. The names of these practitioners appear on a list of psychologists posted on the website. NEPS reimburses the psychologists directly. The person seeking the refund should write to NEPS at 24/27, North Frederick Street, Dublin 1, for advice as to whether they are eligible under the terms of the scheme.
