Vol. 559 No. 6

Written Answers. - Special Educational Needs.

Finian McGrath

Question:

137 Mr. F. McGrath asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 3 will receive the maximum education care. [26933/02]

I would be anxious to ensure that the child in question, in common with all children with special needs, receives the support he requires to enable him to benefit fully from the education system. The child is currently attending a special school where the necessary education support services are being made available.

Concern has previously been expressed to my Department regarding the non-availability of a respite care service in this case. Responsibility for respite services rests with the relevant health authority and my Department brought this matter to the attention of the Department of Health and Children.

I am arranging for my Department to make further contact with the Department of Health and Children in relation to this matter.
