Richard Bruton

Question:

260 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the projected surplus in the social insurance account in 2002; the forecast surplus for 2003; and if she will indicate the amount of transfers from the fund's surplus in 2002 and the projected value for 2003. [25619/02]

The projected cumulative surplus in the Social Insurance Fund, SIF, at the end of 2002 is €1,277 million, while the corresponding forecast figure for the end of 2003 is €1,525 million. The transfer from the SIF surplus to the Exchequer in 2002 is €635 million. There is no provision for a transfer from the SIF to the Exchequer in 2003.
