Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

John McGuinness

Question:

276 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance if agreement has been reached with Kilkenny Canoe Club allowing it an access point to the River Nore as part of the flood relief scheme; if a slight modification to a weir to enable the club to retain a training area has been agreed; and his views on the issues raised at a meeting between the club and Office of Public Works officials. [1428/03]

Discussions are ongoing between the Office of Public Works, the consultants on the River Nore – Kilkenny City – drainage scheme and the Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club in relation to slipway access to the river for the club.

Following a meeting between representatives of Kilkenny Aqua Canoe Club and the resident engineer from the Office of Public Works's consultants in early November 2002, the Canoe Club submitted proposals on the future layout of the weir at Green's Bridge as the club felt that the proposed layout would not favour their activities. These proposals are currently being examined by the Office of Public Works.
