Question:

475 Mr. Cregan asked the Minister for Education and Science if there is a formal system of recognition, notification or award given to pupils who would go through 13 years of national and secondary school without a day's absence; if schools should be encouraged to mark such events; if he will communicate with pupils with such a record if Deputy Cregan makes the details available; and if so, the details of same [1904/03]

While there is no formal system of recognition for pupils who achieve a 100% attendance record at school, I am always delighted to be given the opportunity to congratulate the individual pupil on such a remarkable achievement.

I would also encourage schools to mark such an event, however, this is ultimately a matter for each school management authority.

I can assure the Deputy that I will communicate directly with any pupil in this category whose details are supplied to my Department.
