Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Child Abuse.

Phil Hogan

Question:

515 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Education and Science if a record of any allegation of abuse has been made or referred to in respect of a person (details supplied); if this information is available on his personnel file in view of the reply given to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 119, 120 and 122 on 28 November 2002; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1988/03]

As far as the personnel files of the person to whom the Deputy refers are concerned, there is no record to indicate that an allegation of abuse was ever made against him while he was a serving member of the Department's staff and having checked the matter further I have been informed that there is no such record on any other file in my Department.

I have indicated in replies to previous questions by the Deputy that the allegations made in some newspapers last year, and referred to by the Deputy in this House, were referred by my Department to the Garda. I have also previously stated that the Garda, having carried out an investigation, has informed my Department that it is not aware of any complaint against the person referred to by the Deputy that would warrant a criminal investigation at this time.
