Vol. 560 No. 1

Written Answers. - Bridge Collapse.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

787 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Transport if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 154 of 5 December 2002, he is satisfied that appropriate measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence of the collapse of the bridge structures; his plans to make public the results of the inquiry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1766/03]

I am advised that Iarnród Éireann has completed the report of its internal inquiry into the collapse of bridge beams onto the Dublin-Mullingar railway line in April 2002 during works by contractors for Kildare County Council on the Celbridge interchange project. The report made a number of recommendations, all of which have been implemented by Iarnród Éireann. These recommendations are designed to avoid similar incidents in the future. The company has undertaken to provide a copy of the inquiry report to the railway inspectorate of my Department. As this is an internal Iarnród Éireann report, publication is a matter for that company.
